It is almost summertime, and if you enjoy traveling like me that means it is time to start completing flight reservations and developing your itinerary for your trips. Well, I am here to make your job easier by providing you with a list of cafes to visit while visiting South Korea.
South Korea is widely known for their extravagant and numerous cafes. After spending 5 days in Seoul, I can confirm that there are over 10 cafes in every street. These cafes are all very unique, they offer a wide variety of food and drink options and usually have very unique interiors and exteriors to appeal to the public (with the numerous number of cafes, I am sure the competition is very high, hence the need to stand out for more traffic).
I was able to visit a few cafes while on my recent trip to South Korea and below are my top three that I will recommend you visit for some good pastries, drinks, and overall experience.
- Summer Gold:
On top of my list is actually my favorite cafe so far. They had the most tasty pastries I have ever had and the customer service is impeccable. The pastries are baked daily every morning, so the food is very fresh and I really enjoyed the whole ambiance and the music being played. Customer service is impeccable as the owner welcomes you in and then goes around asking how you have done so far and if you enjoyed the food. After our meal, they immediately bagged the leftovers, and thanked us for coming in. Once again, she asked if we enjoyed the food and if we had a great time. I was very impressed and my friend and I both felt so welcome. The display is worth mentioning too. Overall, please remember to visit this cafe if you are ever in South Korea and make sure you talk to the owner, she understands some English so be patient with her.
- Forest Outing:
The second on my list is actually the biggest cafe in South Korea. Before my trip, I went through TikTok looking for cafes to visit and this one stood out to me. The cafe is huge, with lots of sitting options, and so many different pastries and drinks. I was amazed at the numerous savory pastries they had and I knew I had to visit. Well, the TikTok video didn’t disappoint and I was so glad I went. I picked three different pastries and they were all so good, and I ordered the matcha latte which was really good as well. Overall great experience and great food and I will highly recommend it if you are visiting Seoul. It is a little bit out of the city so be prepared to pay a little bit more for your taxi.
- Onion:
Last on my list is Onion at the Anguk location (they have several locations). Just like the location above, I stumbled upon this cafe from TikTok and I heard it was a very popular location for foreigners so expect a line. The reviews were pretty good, so I decided to visit. We got there at about 9:30 am and got in the first line to select a seat, then a second line to place our order, all in all we were in line for about an hour, 30 minutes. I ordered chestnut bread, hotdog bread, and pizza bread. For my drink, I wanted to try something different, so I got the sweet chestnut latte and it was very delicious. Overall experience was ok, there were so many people and only one counter to pay. I wasn’t really satisfied with the pastries and I thought the options were very limited. I am not really into sweet pastries and I am more into savory pastries and they only had like two options so I ended up with two pastries I thought were very sweet and I couldn’t eat them. If you are into sweets, then this cafe is for you, if not then understand that the savory pastry options are very limited. It was a good first experience and I won’t be visiting again.
Are there any other cafes you love in Seoul and would like to share? Please leave some comments below, thank you!
