The temperature gradually warming up means Spring is almost here and that also means Summer is almost here too. As we plan our summer vacations/getaways, it is worth noting that airlines will be making some changes to their flight schedules as well, mostly to be able to accommodate the summer air travel chaos. It is advisable to plan accordingly and expect changes to your flight schedule especially if your flight is between May – August.
Most airlines will be changing their summer flight schedule for 2023 and this might affect your flight time or even the day of your flight. The reason could be that it is getting more difficult to accurately predict demand, so these flights have to be changed or worst case scenario cancelled to accommodate travelers demands.
This is our first official summer that most Asian countries are now fully open to tourists without the 10 days quarantine requirement after the COVID 19 pandemic. Most airlines are still struggling to adjust to the influx of travelers during the holiday season and the summertime will be a true test of what these airlines can handle post pandemic.
Before the pandemic, airlines used historical data and trends to make flight schedules. As travel trends and days of travel have radically shifted in the post-lockdown era, it has become much more difficult to accurately predict exactly where and when travelers will want to go – GMA News.
According to GMA News, American Airlines has changed or cut roughly 60,000 flights between May 1 and Sept. 1, the most of all the major carriers. So, if you are flying with American Airlines be on the lookout for any changes or updates to your flights.
For folks who have already completed their flight reservation, there might be chances that these flights might be updated so be on the lookout for any email or text notifications in regard to your flight itinerary. If for some reason the updated flight itinerary doesn’t meet your needs anymore, you can always work with the airline to request for new flight options.
In some cases, these flight changes might work to the passenger’s advantage. For example, If an airline makes a significant change to your flight and you find a more convenient flight like a nonstop on the same airline, you can usually switch to the better flight free of charge. So, contact the airline if this applies to you before accepting any changes that they offer.
It is also advisable to download the airline’s app and check your itinerary more often to see if anything has changed. Airlines will usually notify passengers of changes either via the 3rd party you purchased the flights from or the airlines themselves.
I am sure we all are looking forward to summer trips, so pack your bags and get ready. No matter what happens, I hope we can all make it to our destinations safely and have a great time.
Stay blessed and happy travels.
