If you are in Oslo, Norway then you can take a 7-hour train ride to Stockholm, Sweden. The train ride from Oslo central station to Stockholm central station cost roughly about 75.00 US dollars one way.
Accommodation:
We stayed at Elite Marina Tower for about 300 US dollars for 2 nights. The Elite Marina Tower is located near the river and if you are lucky, you can get a room facing the river.
The hotel offers a daily free breakfast buffet from 7 – 11am.
Mode of Transportation:
Public transportation is vastly used in Stockholm, Sweden so that is a great option on your trip. Since we only had a day and a half to explore the city, we opted to use Uber as our primary mode of transportation was walking wasn’t an option.
Where to eat:
Below are my top two places to enjoy Italian food in Stockholm, Sweden.
- Piccoli Sapori – They offer small plates, so you have an opportunity to try multiple items on the menu. We tried 5 different items on the menu, and they were all really good. This restaurant is very small, and cozy so be sure to stop by.
- Paganini Italiano – Is located at Old town Stockholm, Sweden. Overall great food, great vibes, and really good people. We got a chance to speak with the owner on our way out and he was really nice and chatty. Great music too.
Things to do:
Old Town:
To visit Stockholm, Sweden is complete without a stop at Old town. It is located near the royal palace and is widely known for its colorful buildings and narrow streets full of small shops and restaurants. The shops include but are not limited to handmade goods, souvenir shops and bakeries.
The Royal Palace: The Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty The King’s official residence and is also the setting for most of the monarchy’s official receptions. Much of the palace is open to the public year-round.A guided tour for a fee will ensure that your visit to the palace is particularly memorable or you could just take pictures at the front.
The Parliament Building: You cannot miss the parliament building when you visit Old Town. The building is made of red bricks and surrounded by the river. You can take pictures of the parliament building and if you are lucky, you can catch the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen.
The King’s Garden: The Kings garden is located in the middle of the city and if you visit during the summer months, you will experience the beautiful blossoms of the trees around there.
Djurgardens: Djurgardens is located a little bit far out the city so if you are unfamiliar with the public transportation system then I will recommend taking uber. You can enjoy a long walk around the pier, explore the museums in the area such as the Abba museum, and the Viking museum. There is also an amusement park for families to visit if you are traveling with kids.
The Abba Museum:
For fans of Abba, a visit to the Abba museum is a must visit. It is located in Djugardens. Tickets cost between 22 – 30 US dollars. In the Abba museum you see items such as the
The MilesGarden Museum:
Owned and built by Carl and Olga Miles. The MilesGarden museum includes an indoor museum of paintings by and most notably an outdoor sculpture garden. You will find several sculptures here such as “the hand of God”, Poseidon, the sisters, St. Francis of Assisi, Zeus, and many more. Be sure to check this out, explore the garden, the artist home, the artist workshop, and Ann’s home. Ann was the secretary of Carl Miles.
Drottningholm Palace:
Home to the Dowager Queen Hedvig Eleonora. Hedvig Eleonora was 24 and had recently been widowed through the death of Karl X Gustav when she bought Drottningholm in 1661. Drottningholm got its name from the Queen (Drottning – Queen) and it is also known as the Queen palace.
